In our beginner class, children
learn to feel comfortable in the
water with water adjustment
activities. Parents do not
participate. Children wear
flotation devices.
Eel - Advanced Beginner
Designed for children who can
already swim five feet on their
front, back and side with a
flotation device. Children build
endurance, become more efficient
swimmers and progress to
swimming without a flotation
device. Flotation device
used as needed.
Ray -
Intermediate
In our intermediate class,
children develop the basic
strokes. Youngsters must be able
to jump in and swim 15 feet on
their front, back and side to
enter this class. No flotation
devices are used.
Starfish -
Advanced
Children learn rotary breathing,
front and back crawl strokes. A
child must be comfortable
swimming 25 yards on his or her
back and front unassisted to
enter this class.
No flotation.
YMCA School Age Aquatics - Ages
6 & older
Polliwog A - First Time Beginner
This class is for children who
have not had any swim
instruction or have a fear of
the water. Focus will be on
water adjustment, floating and
putting the face in. A flotation
device will be used as needed.
Polliwog B - Beginner
Class is for beginners who are
comfortable in the water. Focus
will be on floating and
introduction to front and back
crawl. Students
are slowly introduced to deeper
water. A flotation device will
be used as needed.
Guppy - Advanced Beginner
At this level emphasis is on
stroke development. Children
learn rotary breathing, front
crawl and back crawl. No
flotation used.
Minnow - Intermediate
Our intermediate class for
school age children.
Children refine their front
crawl and backstroke techniques
and begin working on endurance
training, survival floating,
reaching assists, elementary
backstroke, breaststroke and
side stroke.
Fish - Advanced
This class is designed to help
the advanced swimmer improve and
perfect their stroke mechanics
and endurance. Participation in
this class will prepare the
youngster for participation in
the Dolphin Club or on the
Competitive Swim Team.
Flying Fish- Advanced
Advanced swimmer will learn the
butterfly and refine the breast
stroke, front and back crawl.
Starting from the block and flip
turns are introduced.
Students must do an individual
medley- 25 yards of butterfly,
back stoke, breast stoke and
front crawl to advance to Shark.
Shark- Advanced
Competitive swimming skills are
introduced. Further
emphasis is placed on stoke
mechanics, starts, turns, and
endurance.
Youth Co-ed Swim Team
Participating in the
PennDel League, our team is open
to YMCA youth members ages 5 -18
years. Program runs November -

Adult Aquatics
Morning Wet Workout
Participants work at their own
pace. No swimming ability is
required. Class emphasis is on
improving muscle tone in the
arms, legs, abdominals and
increasing cardiovascular
endurance through aerobic
interval training.
Aquacize
(Water Exercise)
Utilize the waters resistance to
build muscular strength,
cardiovascular endurance and
help to manage daily stress. In
water, the gravitational pull on
joints is minimal which makes
this program ideal for a wide
variety of participants.
Wet & Mild
This program offers a variety of
exercises in the water for the
participant who is looking for
an overall water fitness class
at a low impact level. Emphasis
will be placed on flexibility
and stretching.
Arthritis
Water Exercise
This co-ed exercise program
utilizes the water to help
ambulatory adults improve or
sustain muscular and joint
mobility through coordinated
movement. All exercises are
performed in the shallow end of
the water. Instructor is
certified by the Arthritis
Foundation.
